Links Not Working

Thanks to Todd for the heads. It looks like mod_rewrite isn’t working, so none of the links on the right (ex: categories, etc) are working. Things should be fixed tonight.

The BIG projects. The stress that comes w/ it. The procrastination that results. Oh yah, I’ve been putting this work project off for a while. It’s massive. It’s due tomorrow. It’s barely started. Why don’t you go work on it then?! Um, b/c I really don’t want to (but I will, no worries, I always pull through). I have the urge to clean my room. The urge to take up new hobbies. The urge to blog.
But you don’t want to hear me whine about work that needs to be done, now do you? Instead, I’ll tell you some nice things that I did accomplish:
• I finished some last minute tweeks on my poster and sent it out for a proof at about 2 AM this morning. My good friend at the proofer’s called me tonite and said he’d deliver it tomorrow. Wohoo! I already know I’ll probably still need to make changes, being that I am an anal person w/ serious issues.
• I have more personal project ideas! But I’ll keep you in suspense. Not b/c they’re uber-secret or that I’m a jerk. But right now, I’m tired and I don’t feel like articulating them. Yah, I am lazy like that.
• I read this fun lil’ pdf by Hugh MacLeod. It cleared some things up for me.
• Found a new artist that I like. He’s younger than me. Makes me jealous of his talent. But it’s not about keeping up w/ the Jones. It’s about doing the best you can w/ what you have, at least that’s what my mum tells me. And even if I lack the serious talent needed to render jaw-dropping illustrations, I love doing it. Drawing that is, not that I love my lack of skills. And well, I’m gonna keep at it. I figure even if everyone else hates it, at least I’ll have fun through the process. =)
Oh yah, I’m going to start posting my illustrations. Just sketches here are there. And I’ll show you the steps along the way. I find that I am always so much more interested in the process than the finished product. Although, it doesn’t hurt to have an awesome end result.
Blahdy, blah, blah. I’ve gone on long enough. Back to work. I love doing book layouts in other languages.

I’m a total newb when it comes to certain mediums. Haha, ok, a lot of mediums. But it’s that process, that exploration into a new medium that just excites me. To see an idea materialize gives me goosebumps. Most of the time, my the end result deviates from the original thought. But oh, the sheer joy of trying something new (hey, it’s new each time) and watching a blank canvas transform. =)
I’ve always been a fan of using common, everyday stuff to make art. It changes my perspective and challenges me. But I’ve been wondering a bit. Is it just novelty? Am I afraid to try traditional mediums (and be compared to other artists who use those same mediums)? Hmm…a bit of yes and a dash of no.
Currently, I’ve been working on doing more vector art. It’s always nice to sharpen my bezier skills, considering I usually only use Illustrator to create die strikes for mechanicals. I’m hoping to get some of my vector stuff printed (mmm…offset lithography). If all goes according to plan, I’ll have a Valentine’s Day poster out soon!

I’m still having difficulty uploading photos. In the meantime, you’ll just have to use your imagination.

Happy New Years, everyone! 2007 looks like a lucky year. Haha, I don’t mean the year itself, but the actual written number (written in old style figures). I still haven’t quite gotten used to signing my documents/checks with it. Well, cheers to the New Year & I hope it brings good stuff for y’all.
Speaking of good stuff, DWR has this annual Champagne Chair Contest. (Yah, you like that sleepily clever transition? OK, I know it’s not clever at all) Sometimes, I feel like a broken record. Because of my constant sleep deprivation, I don’t know what I’ve said and to whom. It’s as if I’m sleep-walking through my days. Apparently I mention this DWR Champagne Chair Contest to Stay-C each year. And each year it passes, and I don’t enter it. Well, this year, when I excitedly told Stay-C about this contest, she laughed and informed me of my groundhog-day-like tendencies. So naturally, I decided to enter it the night I told her about it, that way I’d be sure not to forget. Using some empty bottles from Susan’s New Year party, I constructed this little chair. As much as I’d like to create some gorgeously intricate and stunning piece, simplicity (and deadline pressures) won out. It’s a label glued to the foil that wraps around the neck. One solid piece with 3 cuts, a few pulls and pinches, and viola, my entry for the 2006 DWR contest. =)
