Open source blots 8, 9, + 10 process

Not sure if anyone was wondering, but I used the Chinese Moon goddess myth for inspiration.

Open blots 8, 9, + 10 in Photoshop. Paste them into one document (on separate layers). Scale to your liking. Change the blending modes to “Multiply” so that the white areas become transparent. Save as a Photoshop file (.psd). Close Photoshop.

Open your file in Illustrator, this will preserve the blending modes. Add a background gradient on another layer and move it to the bottom of your layer pallette. Label your layers by double clicking on a layer and typing in its new name. Be descriptive/creative with your names. Lock your layers when not in use. Save your new file as an Illustrator file (.ai).

Using the pen tool in Illustrator, go crazy and draw the other background bits. I like to group objects and place them on their own layers (and after I’m done creating one layer, I lock it and proceed with the next one). The smashed suns are on their one layer, the ninja on another, and so on. Arrange the layers (by dragging them in your layer palette) in the proper overlapping order (ie the ground layer should be above the gradient background layer; the cloud layer should be above the ninja layer). Have fun. Go throw a ninja star into one of the suns. ![]()

Still using the pen tool, start drawing the bunny body. I used the lil’ bump at the end of the ink blot as the start of the tail. I turned the pointy part of the ink blot into a marshmallow-roasting stick.

Add on the bunny’s head.

Give the bunny a friend! Use the nifty pen tool to draw the dragon.

Draw in the flame on the Dragon layer. Position it where you like and then go to the Object dropdown menu> Arrange > Send to back or use the shortcut, Shift + apple + [. It will now be behind the dragon.

I drew in a word bubble with the bunny laughing. I later decided that I didn’t like it and took it out.

And here’s the finished piece. Enjoy!
Happy drawing,
Ninja
