“Big Bang Love” gets no love from me

46-okunen no koi (aka Big Bang Love, Juvenile A)

46-okunen no koi starts off with a young boy and an old man in an intense questioning session and abruptly breaks out into interpretive dance (a muscular, tribal-tattooed man spinning in a hot pink fringed skirt). The story then shifts to 2 detectives trying to solve a murder in a juvenile detention center. There’s a bit of homosexual tension, jealousy, violence, a sky on fire, an electrocuted CG butterfly, Mayan ruins, + a rocket ship.
The film is visually interesting with some lovely shots + editing. However, the narrative dragged on in some parts + failed to hold my attention (yah, I’ll admit—I nodded off for a second).
I do applaud director,Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer) for creating something experimental + arty, but this film didn’t really do it for me.
