Film Festivals

Now that I’ve started getting deep into this whole movie thing, I have this huge desire to go to film festivals. My first choice was obviously Cannes. Too bad it’s a private festival and in France. I have this fear that when I meet people and they say they’re from France, I’ll be like, “FRANCE??!?!?!!?!@!??!@” But I digress.
My second choice was Sundance. Yeah, it may not be a great festival. Yeah, it may be cold, but I really like the idea behind it. Promoting independent filmmakers. But after looking at flights and hotels, it would cost a minimum of $2250 just to go and stay for a week. And this is planning almost 6 months in advance!
Now, my sights are set on Toronto. Toronto has the prestige of being the largest public film festival. It’s also the beginning of the Oscar buzz. Not that I hold much value in the Oscar, but most of the better movies come out of Toronto. These tend to be larger studio films. The benefit is that it’s relatively driveable (as compared to Utah) and the hotels are cheaper. Even now, I can find hotels for around $70pp/night.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend this year. I’m using all my vacation days to go to India. Next year. For sure.
