Spirit If… is available today through Arts & Crafts, the label co-founded by Kevin Drew.
What can I say? I’m loving Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew Spirit If…! Wow, what a mouthful, I know. Spirit If… is the first of the Broken Social Scene Presents series where a BSS member (in this case Kevin Drew) goes solo, writes the whole album, + is backed up by the rest of the BSS band. Brendan Canning is the next member up, + Justin Peroff is slated after him. Spirit If… charms with it’s luscious layers of sound—delicate guitar strums, horn swells, + whispering falsettos.
Kevin Drew manages to drop the F-bomb in both tracks, tbtf + F—cked Up Kid, + still make it sound so sweet in his soft, yearning voice.
