I have issues…

As I was eating my bowl of cereal this morning, I picked up a book Penguin had loaned to me. It had been sitting on my kitchen table for about a week. I have been meaning to read it, but haven’t gotten around to it. The book was about stress management & being overloaded. “I really don’t have time to read this,” I thought to myself. But if Penguin recommended it, I’ll give it a shot.

I didn’t get terribly far, not because of the content. But because I was bothered by:

Poor kerning in the headlines
Really, I could drive a truck between the first two letters of that word while the rest of the letters felt like they’re humping each other.

Fake small caps used in the subheads

Justified type in the body copy resulting in awful rivers

Bold, underlined, and all caps type
Stop screaming for attention. I’m not a fan of underlined type, and using all 3 methods to call for attention is a little obnoxious.

I’m not a morning person, so I was probably a little grumpy. Later, I’ll pick the book back up & give it another go.
