Review: 88 Minutes

88 Minutes is about a Criminal Psychologist, Dr. Jack Gramm (Al Pacino) who gets a threatening phone call saying that he only has 88 minutes to live.

Pacino used to be a great actor. I believe he can still act, if he really wants to. But he’s become such a characature of himself, that it’s hard to see past him. If he does a poor job, one can imagine the level of performances from the other actors.

The plot, if you can call it that, moves along linearly. It tries to throw red herrings at you, but for the most part, you know who’s involved. There’s no real tension because you know there’s no way they’re going to kill Al Pacino.

The worst part has to be towards the end. There’s this girl tied and ganged in a chair. They cut to her turning her head quickly towards the camera at least 5 times. Which wouldn’t be so bad… if it wasn’t the SAME EXACT SHOT each time! Seriously!
