It’s Ze Frank’s 36th birthday, so I thought I’d take this day to post his TED talk.

Bachelor Brides is a self-portrait series from Japanese photographer Kimiko Yoshida. The mysterious, often monochromatic, nuptial photos were shot with a Hasselblad camera with a 120 mm lens. It’s rare to see claymation. It’s even more rare to see claymation of this caliber. The last good work that I’ve seen is Wallace and Gromit, but this surpasses it by miles. It’s topped with a fantastic story.

Here’s the trailer for Tarsem Singh’s The Fall. Beautiful imagery, fantastic landscapes, and vibrant colors. For this alone, it’s on my list of movies to see. ^__^

Rating: 2/4 stars
Man Push Cart is about a man, Ahmad (Ahmad Razvi) who works in a street cart. It’s a modern telling of the myth of Sisyphus.
The cinematography is amazing, presenting New York city as a living character, just as much as any of the actors. Although it was shot on DV, you’d be hard pressed to notice because of the use of natural lighting. Unlike Once, where the grain is obvious, we see all the shadows.
The ending does sort of come quite abruptly leaving you with a sense of lack of closure. Granted, it may be necessary for the myth, but it probably could’ve been handled better.
Update: Ninja didn’t understand why I gave this a 2/4 stars. The main reason is because none of the characters really go anywhere. I understand that that’s kind of the point of the myth of Sisyphus, but in the same vain, the way the third act forces the character back into the routine is a bit contrived.

I’m at home sick. It sort of hit out of nowhere. I was fine this morning. Now, I’m feeling awfully tired and weak. I spent most of the day in bed with my stuffed penguin (Christmas gift from Jasmine) and Mr. Pooh doll (birthday from Ophelia). Been eating jook aka congee too, don’t ya know.
Anywho, the point is that I haven’t gotten around to drawing/inking today. Inking is such bliss for me. I get a real kick out of watching others ink, too. Here’s a viddy of Fábio Moon inking a Casanova page.

My dear friend Adrian emailed me to let me know that Rinzen (he is a proud member of this unstoppable vector powerhouse) will be featured in the upcoming April issue (number 87) of Juxtapoz Magazine.

I should note that this is the first time Rinzen will have their portraits shown (as a group), unadorned by their signature vector illustration.

Take a look at these 2 spreads from Juxtapoz’s Rinzen feature

Congratulations, Rinzen on a well-deserved spot!

I think it’s hilarious that Dali did commercials. I especially like his “interpretation” of how Alkaseltzer works.
