I woke up at 7, feeling weak and tired. But I had to do work. I took a shower and went down stairs for some breakfast. Even though I didn’t want to eat, I knew that I had to. Luckily, we had pancakes. Nice and light. Just what I needed.

At 8, Marcia came by. I told her what happened as we waited for Nazira. Marcia gave me a book where she has all her friends and stuff sign. I wrote something really quick, but felt like there was so much more I wanted to say, so I held on to it.

At 9, we left for Iskra.

We met with Larisa. She had little cakes and macerated raspberries and was preparing tea for us. I went inside to shoot some b-roll, but ended up starting the interview inside.

We came back outside and had tea and started the “formal” interview. Tanya, Marcia, and Nazira were there, pretty much just chatting it up. It was kind of hard to film, but I think it came out alright.

We got some great stories. Then we went inside to get some of the pictures she had from her computer. That’s going to be a great resource as I’m putting this thing together.

We went back to the office and had noodles with pork and green peppers. It was good. It was more than I needed, but I forced myself to eat it.

At 1pm, we had a quick meeting to talk about the rest of the week. I talked about the Institute film and how I wanted to shift focus now. Marcia went home to do some stuff and spend time with her family, and I took a nap until 2:30.

Nazira and I started doing the translation of Larisa.

My goodness, Larisa is an amazing woman. We got stories about how she helps old people who live in dumps. How she rescues children because they’ve been abandoned. How she works with people with neuroligical diseases. Amazing.

She even told us a story about how she experienced a miracle. It was like the miracle of the bread and the fish, but with cookies. They bought enough for 300 people, but ended up feeding over 600 with bags of cookies left over.

During the translation, Zuma came in and gave me some pills for my stomach. I told her I was already taking medicine, but she insisted. So I downed 7 pills. And I have to take another 7 tonight.

After the translation, I knew that there was so much more that we had to dig for. I know Marcia really wants to go to the mountain camp to spend time with her friends and the rest of the team, but this is so much more important.

Larisa had talked about a village that didn’t have access to clean water for 15 years. They had to walk 5km to get to it. I wanted to visit the village and talk to some of the people.

She also talked about the neurological hospital. It would be great to shoot that too.

There’s just so much story here, it makes me wish I knew Russian.

For dinner, Zuma prepared me half a chicken. One half was one of those grilled rotisserie things that I saw. Another was boiled. She also gave me a chicken rice soup.

As I was finishing dinner, James came by and chilled with me.

After dinner, I played a lot of DS and then went to bed.
