I don’t color in the lines

Ninja March 31st, 2009

i-dont-color-in-the-lines

With my Powerbook in the shop, it’s difficult to get my Photoshop work done. Penguin kindly let me hop onto his PC in the meantime. My fingers felt a tad off when it came to the keyboard shortcuts, but with a quad-processor and 4 gigs of ram, it’s hard to complain.

Here’s the scan. The paper was too big for the scanner, so I had to piece it together. It has a very obvious seam, but no worries, all will be well in Photoshop.

I cloned out stray bits of dust, adjusted the levels and curves, and painted in some of the gaps with the paintbrush tool.

Afterwards, I painted several ugly, color layers. This is an example of one of my color layers with the normal blending mode selected.

To add more color and depth to my original painting, I simply changed the layer blending modes of the messy, color layers (mentioned above). I’ve still many more layers to go, but you get the idea.

Happy drawing,

Penguin cooks & I bake! We both adore the crew at America’s Test Kitchen, so it was only fitting that we used their Chicken Teriyaki and Boston Crème Cupcake recipes for our birthday dinner party.

Much thanks to my lovely sous-chefs, Stay-C and Steph, for helping with the delicious Boston Crème filling.

My wee Powerbook is still getting fixed. He’s a trooper. My IT guy sent me these screen shots for giggles.

after

He then showed me an 89-page pdf of all the errors that he fixed so far. I think my face turned 3 shades of red when this one popped up. Why did Ryan have to name the router, “puppynuts”?

My poor Powerbook is giving me the grey screen of death, and I will have to get it serviced tomorrow. If all goes well, I’ll be back and running by the weekend.

It’s never a good sign when the first line on your screen starts with the word, “panic.”

New type wallpapers from Parachute

The kind folks at the Parachute type foundry have put out some new wallpapers. You can download them here.

Last September we decided to redecorate our office by placing 3D typography on a wall using an inspiring quote by Oscar Wilde “I have the simplest of tastes, I’m always satisfied with the best”. It was during this process which involved cutting and painting the letters when Stavros started taking pictures. Some of them turned out so good that we decided to place them as wallpapers on our desktops.

Les triplettes d’Avignon

This is just a working title—I had the song, Sur Le Pont D’Avignon, stuck in my head this morning. Now I have The more you ignore me, the closer I get by the great Morrissey looping in my mind.

I promised that I would create more personal work in 2009, so in keeping my word, here’s my latest—a set of triplets with triplet rabbits. I’m hoping to finish the pencils before 3 AM, so I can put some gesso on it and let it dry overnight.

The patterns are killing my wrists! But it’s so worth it.
