Hallo, hallo you lovely folks! Thank you so much for all your encouragement and little love notes as I nervously go through prepping for this show. You have no idea how much it means to me.

For her hair, I layered burnt siena, raw siena, and raw umber acrylic paint around thin strips of ochre underpainting.

Here’s where I left off at 3 AM. Seemed like a good stopping point. Stay tuned for more obsessively detailed hair painting. ~__^

Much love back atcha,
Ninja

IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!! I have never seen you do blond hair before and it looks awesome. I cant wait to see it in person!
  • Sorry to disappoint Tiff, but she's a brunette. The golden bits are just the underpainting. Can't wait to meet you in person, dearie.

she kinda looks like a vampire now

.... just need to add some sparkles hehe
  • Hi Ray,

Oh, ho ho, there ARE sparkles in there! Well, tiny iridescent flecks if you really want to get to it. I really liked my blush color, so I mixed it with clear gesso and dabbed it on there.

Thanks for dropping us a line!

Looking good Ninja, can't wait to see the finished piece. Do you ever need to save your paint colors for more than a day? Recently learned a trick that if you use a palette pan, line it with wet paper towels then a sheet of marker paper on top of the paper towels, the paints don't dry out as fast. Just thought I'd share. Commenting up a storm today... ;)
  • Hi Jenni,

Thanks so much for your kind words and tips!! It's always nice to hear from you. ^__^

A while back, I did buy myself a spiffy stay-wet palette, but I rarely use it. The thing is massive (like the size of my torso), and I already tote around quite a bit. I reuse the same paper plate until the bottom wears out, and my colors are simple enough, that I can mix them and match without a problem. I'm a nomadic painter; I tend to set up in other people's kitchens/dining rooms. When I do digital work, I hang out in cafes.

Thanks for visiting and have a lovely weekend (and Independence day if you're in the States)!

    Cheers,
