After discovering a forgotten photo album in a Venice Beach thrift shop, Kozyndan were inspired to create their own set of fictitious characters complete with quirky narratives. The Unknown Portraits solo exhibition is on display at the Narwhal Art Projects.

Sickness spreads like wildfire. Poor sanitation, scarce clean water, and insufficient food form the daily reality. Crime decimates dignity. Floods cover the camps in mud.

But the gates are shut; until given government permission, these refugees cannot return and rebuild their lives.

When former Miracle Legion front man Mark Mulcahy’s wife, Melissa, passed away unexpectedly last year, she left him to care for his 3-year-old twin daughters. His friends hit the studio and recorded a benefit tribute album, Ciao My Shining Star:The Songs of Mark Mulcahy. This 21-track album includes contributions from Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Frank Black, Dinosaur Jr., Vic Chesnutt, and Juliana Hatfield. Ciao My Shining Star will be released next Tuesday on September 29, 2009.

Below is Thom Yorke’s music video for All For The Best, the first track on Ciao My Shining Star.
