Hallo dear friends! I hope you’re doing very well!! Oh, the past few months have been quite busy for NvP! Please, please forgive us for our irregular posting schedule.
What have we been working on? While Penguin’s been very good about posting the progress of his projects, I’ve been keeping mum about mine. You know I don’t like to keep secrets from you, but I can’t divulge any juicy information on my current illustration project just yet.
In the meantime, let me show you a couple of the finished projects. Some of my hair illustrations will be featured in the book, Hair’em Scare’em, scheduled to drop in October. You can grab a sneak peak here.

Also, some of my photos will be in Mr. Stefan G. Bucher’s upcoming photo book, The Graphic Eye: Photographs by Graphic Designers from around the Globe, slated to hit stores in November.

I consider it a huge honor to sharing pages with some of my hair-master and design heroes—Yuko Shimizu, Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir (aka Shoplifter), Marian Bantjes, Paul Sahre, Deanne Cheuk, Debbie Millman, and Grafuck (Fiel Valdez/ Peter Vattanatham) just to name a few.
BIG, heartfelt thanks to Stefan for including me in his lovely book and to Ophelia and Jeff for posting about my work (which is how the folks at Gestalten found me).
Ta for now,

The music album that accompanies the book features contributions from the Shins’ James Mercer, the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, the Flaming Lips and Iggy Pop. The entire album is streamed at NPR’s site.
You can download 3 of the tracks here:

No Photoshop here! Beijing-based artist, Liu Bolin, covers his subjects from head to toe with paint so that they blend into their surroundings. This camouflage collection is an exploration of human nature and animal instincts.
Most animals live in harmony with their environment, creating habitats and protecting themselves through concealment and adaptation. Humans conversely seek to manipulate and destroy natural environments to best suit our needs, or the remove ourselves as far as possible from our base form. Through presenting humans camouflaged in artificial surroundings, Bolin questions whether we ourselves are natural, or artificial? We seek to elevate ourselves outside of the natural world, but this in turn alienates us and upsets the balance from which we came.
Artist’s education
In in 1995, Liu Bolin graduated from the Art Department of Shandong Arts Institute with a bachelor’s degree. In 2001, he Received a master’s degree from the Sculpture Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.

On the Street, is the result of 2 years of walking and talking with and photographing the people who call the streets of Chicago their home. Many, I have come to know by name and I still see and talk with them often. Others come and go like ghosts and I never knew their names.

Light tests are rarely shown and usually feature assistants posing with calibration charts. Luke Lanter of Capture This wanted to share his goofy, behind-the-scene test shots and started the blog, Light Test.com. Most of the photographs on this site come directly from the photographers.

Dina Goldstein is best known for her photograph series—The Gaza Strip, The Trackrecord Project, and David Series. Her most recent photograph series, Fallen Princesses, takes a look Disney fairy tales striped of their happy endings.
These works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. In all of the images the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates her conflict. The ‘…happily ever after’ is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues.
As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm’s stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney’s perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction, and self-image issues.
