Happy 40th birthday, Sesame Street!

Ninja November 10th, 2009

happy-40th-birthday-sesame-street

Last season, 5 million viewers tuned in each week to visit their friends from Sesame Street. Today, the beloved children’s show turns 40!

Here are some classic moments

Laugh with Ricky Gervais

Personal hygiene with Ernie

Sing with Jon Stewart

I <3 Stewart, but singing should probably be left to the pros ~__^

Count with Feist

It pays to be persistent with David Beckham

And my personal favorite

Robert DeNiro imagines that he’s a cabbage

My dear friend, Ophelia Chong, is celebrating her birthday today!

Happy birthday, Miss O!!

She’s got a lot of spunk, is bursting with creativity, and makes some truly breathtaking work. Ophelia’s work can been seen in Raygun, Interview, Bleach, Lava, Strand Releasing, Slamdance, LAIFF, Outfest, Workbook, CSS Artistry, Lemon Poppyseed, and 1,000 Artist Journal Pages. In her spare time (what spare time?), she writes for KCET and shares about her life in Los Angeles.

Penguin cooks & I bake! We both adore the crew at America’s Test Kitchen, so it was only fitting that we used their Chicken Teriyaki and Boston Crème Cupcake recipes for our birthday dinner party.

Much thanks to my lovely sous-chefs, Stay-C and Steph, for helping with the delicious Boston Crème filling.

I just finished baking and decorating cupcakes for my darling boyfriend and other half of Ninja vs Penguin. Each cupcake (not all pictured here) has an inside joke sculpted out of sugar paste. It was my first time using sugar paste—very sticky stuff.

Happy birthday, honey!

Happy birthday, Roger

My friend and illustrator, Roger Huyssen, turns 62 today! During his career, he’s illustrated over twenty Time magazine covers (some of which are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery). Some of his clients include IBM, AT&T, Kodak, Coca-Cola, M&M/Mars, Universal Studio, NFL, and Jim Henson studios. Even with such a huge portfolio and impressive client list, he will probably be best known for work with Paula Scher on the Boston album cover.

Happy birthday, Roger! Thank you for your friendship, stories, sage-like advice, and laughs.

Lots of love,

The talented triple-threat (designer, illustrator, writer), Mr. Stefan G. Bucher, turned 35 today. Stefan has been a good friend to me these past 2 years, & he’s been kind enough share his work & keep me company during the wee hours of the morning (seeing how we share similar sleeping schedules).

Today, NvP had the pleasure of celebrating Stefan’s birthday with the man himself!

Before entering his cool apartment, we were greeted by his flock of festive flamingos.

Oh, and here’s the birthday boy with plushy monster number 80. I commissioned Wenny to crochet this little guy, after all she did such a bang up job making amigurumi versions of us!
