Hallo everyone! I trust you’re all enjoying your long weekends. =) I just flew back on the red eye from LA and am trying to stay awake to re-adjust my sleep schedule. Alas, I only got 15 minutes of sleep on the flight so this is probably a losing battle. I already feel my eye lids closing on their own accord.
It feels good to be back home! I came back to a lovely surprise—not one, but two packages greeted me.
The one on the left is from Adrian, and the one on the right is from Stefan. =D

Yay!!! And my original monster from Stefan! Danke!!! We agreed to an art swap a while ago. I mentioned that I really liked the way he drew bark, so he kindly drew a winged friend perched on a branch. He also included a very nice handwritten note =) Such a kind and funny guy!

I’m not much of a writer. If you look at Penguin’s posts, you’ll find that his ideas flow in an orderly fashion and make sense. I, on the other hand, kind of feel like a poster child for ADHD. That’s why my posts are usually pretty short and have pictures. =)
Being that I’m also a bit shy, I haven’t contributed any stories or commented on the Daily Monster. Oh, I would visit the monsters and admire from a far; they were the highlight of many a long work day. When Stefan posted his open source ink blots, I jumped on it. This was something I could get into! Well, one fine day, Stefan emailed me asking about my illustrations. Wanting to see more, he said he had googled me and found nothing, except some websites about a competitive Canadian swimmer who shared the same name. I couldn’t believe it…one my heroes was actually looking for my stuff! Needless to say, it totally rocked my world!!! I think I did a lil’ happy dance when I got that email, too, haha.
Anywho, I showed him my coffee paintings from the post below, and I’m absolutely thrilled to learn that he digs them. =D So much so that we’re going to do an original art swap. I’m going to send him Tom (the last painting of the series), and he’s going to send me a new inky friend. I can’t wait!!!

It’s a lovely, snowy day in Jersey. Being that I’m sort of stuck indoors, I thought I’d take some time to share about another designer/illustrator that I love, Mr. Stefan G. Bucher. I first came across his clever work while at uni.
Born (1973) and raised in Germany, educated at the Art Center in Cali, and now living out of LA, Mr. Bucher started his design career as an art director for Wieden & Kennedy. He’s currently the man behind the curtain of the 344 Design Studio. He is responsible for CD packages for KCRW DJ Jason Bentley, the Solar Twins, Linda Wang, Whitney Houston, and Sting.
From 1999-2001, he served as He was the vice-president of membership for the LA chapter of the AIGA. In September of 2004, the Art Directors Club of New York selected him as one of their “Young Guns,” honoring him as one of 35 outstanding creatives age 30 and under. And his illustrated column ink & circumstance appears inside the pages of STEP magazine.
