The EyeWriter

Ninja November 18th, 2009

In 2003, graffiti artist and writer Tony Quan (aka TEMPTONE) was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. This disease has left him paralyzed with the exception of his eyes. This is where the EyeWriter comes in. This eye-tracking apparatus and custom, open source software allows Tony and other artists with paralysis to create art using only their eyes.

Art is a tool of empowerment and social change, and I consider myself blessed to be able to create and use my work to promote health reform, bring awareness about ALS and help others.

A Craigslist love story

Ninja August 11th, 2008

a-craigslist-love-story

Alex Holdridge’s romantic comedy, In Search of a Midnight Kiss, follows two cynics who meet on Craigslist for a New Year’s Eve blind date.

We premiered In Search of a Midnight Kiss at Tribeca and it sold to IFC Films. We took it over to the U.K. and Edinburgh, it sold. We took it to Greece and it sold there. It’s hard to believe something’s finally happening because you know how much the odds are stacked against you. If this one hadn’t worked, I don’t know how I would have handled it. I put every single thing I had into this movie, all my knowledge of film, and I hope people like it.

Beautiful Losers: Make Something From Nothing

Ninja August 6th, 2008

beautiful-losers-make-something-from-nothing

Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990’s a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the “establishment” art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture. Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories…speaking to themes of what happens when the outside becomes “in” as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today’s youth.

Beautiful Losers (a film companion to the exhibition and book) will debut this Friday night in New York at the IFC Center.

IFC Center Showtimes
12:45pm, 2:30pm, 4:15pm, 6:15pm, 8:20pm, 10:20pm, plus Fri-Sat: 12:15am
Director and Artists will be in attendance at the 8:20pm & 10:20pm screenings on Friday and Saturday

For Beautiful Losers fans outside the NY area, it will be showing in theaters in LA, San Francisco Chicago, and Portland.

AIGA members who buy tickets at the Beautiful Losers Store, can use the code BLAIGA. Buy three tickets to receive a free limited edition KRINK / Beautiful Losers graffiti marker at the IFC Center Theater.

Video: Great Pans with Rubber Bands

Penguin July 1st, 2008

video-great-pans-with-rubber-bands

If you have a great tripod with a great head, then you have the potential for great pans and tilts. But sometimes the equipment is great, but your hand is not that steady. Rubber band to the rescue!

Strap a think rubber band to the handle and pull it in the direction you wan it to move. The rubber band acts like a shock absorber, dispensing energy as necessary.

No more jerky pans or tilts.
