Ninja May 21st, 2009

Years ago, I met two lovely designers-turned-winemakers, Ben and Phyllis Feder. They had excellent taste which was reflected in all parts of their lives. I remember seeing a signed Seymour Chwast hanging over the toilet in their bathroom, and I instantly liked them. Experiencing Mr. Chwast’s work and wit in such an intimate setting was a real treat!

Stereo.type by Ebon Heath
Ninja May 20th, 2009
Language comes to life in Ebon Heath’s beautiful, kinetic typographic ballet, Stereo.type.
Heath’s intricately hand-cut mobile sculptures (the more recent pieces are laser-cut) feature Tupac and Rakim lyrics, Marinetti’s Futurist Manifesto, advertising slogans, and religious texts. His cascading tyvec and bristol letters are strung on fine wire and dance in the air. Heath cites Alexander Calder as a strong influence on his work.
Brooklyn-based Ebon Heath is an artist, graphic designer, and a Professor in graphic design at Lehman College (he holds a bachelor’s degree from RISD). He is also the co-founder and partner of Cell Out.

Here’s the classic story of snail meets girl by designers, Billy Kiossoglou and Frank Philippin. Design studio, Brighten the Corners brings us the tale about poor Victor, the hole-y snail, and his friend Susie. This pocket sized book (80×130 mm) is perfectly sized for the hands of a curious child.

PS. I know someone is going to write me about this, so I’ll just put it out there: no, they didn’t hang the quotes. But I don’t think your child will mind too much. ~__^
