My Christmas gift came early this year — I’ve been accepted into Art Center College of Design’s illustration program! And I cannot stop grinning. ^______________________^
I gave my two weeks notice today, and I still have a lot of loose ends to tidy up at work before I can get to packing for my cross-country move. So I will take a pause in blogging on NvP and continue back in the new year on January 17, 2010.
Happy holidays to you and your loved ones and much thanks for your friendship, kind comments, love, and support!
Los Angeles-based illustrator/art director Geoff McFetridge has created a lovely collection of work for Spike Jonze’s movie adaptation of the beloved children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are. A sampling of his WTWTA work has been offset printed and bound and is now available for purchase.
I was given the opportunity to interpret not only Spike Jonze’s interpretation of Where the Wild Things Are, but also Maurice Sendak’s original book. Like any kid growing up in the 70’s I was greatly influenced by Mr. Sendak’s books. His books are not just on my bookshelf they are in my blood.

I remember gasping at my first sighting of Laura Laine’s fashion illustrations in the New York Times. I loved the way her lithe characters dramatically and gracefully twisted. Also, those statuesque faces framed by massive locks of flowing long hair — gorgeous.
Laura Laine studied fashion design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Her clients include Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Iben Hoej, Daniel Palillo, The New York Times Magazine, Elle Girl, The Guardian, and Páp Magazine.
Chris Appelhans rarely updates his blog, but when he does, oh my! Check out his fantastic concept art for Wes Anderson’s upcoming movie, Fantastic Mr. Fox! For more concept art, visit Chris’ blog.
Atlanta-based designer and illustrator, Mark Weaver, is on his eighth series for his Make Something Cool Everyday project. His collage-based illustrations mix bold color, 60s retro, and modern graphics. His clients include Wired Magazine, Paste Magazine, American Airlines, Stereogum, and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

HunterGatherer is an award-winning design, illustration, animation and production studio founded by Todd St. John. Here’s a look into their creative process.
It’s more an enjoyment of the craft and of the process and being able to work with tactile things instead of computer models, although those are fun sometimes too… I spend very little time knowing sort of what’s going on with the latest camera or software or things like that and probably more time and trying to come up with custom ways of doing stuff. If you can have a process that’s different, you’re going to have a result that’s different.
