We’ll have about an hour and a half to examine some of his work that isn’t shown to the public. Hopefully, we’ll be able to take some pics (sans flash natch).
My friend and illustrator, Roger Huyssen, turns 62 today! During his career, he’s illustrated over twenty Time magazine covers (some of which are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery). Some of his clients include IBM, AT&T, Kodak, Coca-Cola, M&M/Mars, Universal Studio, NFL, and Jim Henson studios. Even with such a huge portfolio and impressive client list, he will probably be best known for work with Paula Scher on the Boston album cover.
Happy birthday, Roger! Thank you for your friendship, stories, sage-like advice, and laughs.
Grace Bonney of Design Sponge teamed up with the New York Public Library for the video series, Design by the Book. Here, they will follow 5 NYC artists as they create designs inspired by the library’s collection.
I don’t know much about this young talent, but I always smile when viewing her illustrations. Julia Kuo has a great eye for color and tends to use muted tones with carefully placed vibrant accent colors. Her work can be seen in fine publications like American Illustration, CMYK magazine, and Creative Quarterly. Her clients include the New York Times and American Greetings (I’m going to see if I can find some of her cards later).
