Watching Milton Glaser’s magical color pencil move and make forms makes me want to draw!

For me, drawing has always been an absolutely primary way of encountering reality. I’m astonished by drawing. I always think of every drawing as a kind of miraculous occurrence.

Scarlett Johansson & Pete Yorn duet

Ninja October 6th, 2009

Oh no, not another actress/singer, I groaned to myself. But Scarlett Johansson’s twangy vocals on Relator complement Pete Yorn’s catchy ’60s tunes quite well. Relator is the first single off of Pete and Scarlett’s album, Break Up. Inspired by the collaboration between Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot, this album includes eight original songs (plus a cover of I Am the Cosmos).

HunterGatherer’s creative process

Ninja October 5th, 2009

huntergatherers-creative-process

HunterGatherer is an award-winning design, illustration, animation and production studio founded by Todd St. John. Here’s a look into their creative process.

It’s more an enjoyment of the craft and of the process and being able to work with tactile things instead of computer models, although those are fun sometimes too… I spend very little time knowing sort of what’s going on with the latest camera or software or things like that and probably more time and trying to come up with custom ways of doing stuff. If you can have a process that’s different, you’re going to have a result that’s different.

This 21-track album includes contributions from Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Frank Black, Dinosaur Jr., Vic Chesnutt, and Juliana Hatfield. The Man Who Played God

The Man Who Played God is my favorite track off of Dark Night of the Soul—the Danger Mouse (Brian Burton), Sparklehorse (Mark Linkous), and David Lynch collaboration.

The idea of this song is that there’s a great artist who takes parts of the world into his own mind, changes it, and then puts it out into the world and  changes the world by doing this, by using his imagination. So that’s what this song is all about.
Suzanne Vega

The album that  features contributions from the Shins’ James Mercer, the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, the Flaming Lips and Iggy Pop. The entire album is streamed at NPR’s site.
