Yoshitomo Nara’s got street cred

After drawing a smiley smiley face on the wall of the First Avenue L-train stop at 3:10 AM on February 27, Yoshitomo Nara was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, possession of graffiti instruments, making graffiti and resisting arrest. He was released after a night in jail.
Nara called the arrest “a nice experience in my life,” in which he got to meet people he would not otherwise have encountered.
Nara was in New York for a solo exhibition of his work at the Marianne Boesky Gallery in Chelsea that runs through March 28, 2009. His sculptures and paintings were listed for $125,000 and $500,000.
It probably would have been worth ten grand if you or I got our hands on that brick.
